Visiting my parents for a week in March has now become an annual tradition. Last year, it was a road trip through the Southwestern states to meet them in Arizona, and this year we all hopped on a plane and headed down to the small gulf city of Galveston, Texas.
We weren’t totally sure what to expect – Texas never really seemed like a “beach state” to any of us. But after doing some research and checking out photos, we knew it had potential.

We were met with humid air and hazy skies, but weren’t complaining; it was much better than the cold we had left behind.
Our first stop was to check out Galveston Pier. Stretching out into the ocean with its flashing lights, it was one of the first things that drew me in when we decided to visit. We headed down for golden hour and took everything in.

The next day we hit the beach as soon as we woke up (which was significantly later than Peg and Steve). The sun managed to break through another somewhat hazy day and we soaked in the warm air.

After lunch, the guys went golfing so my Mom and I decided to explore our area. Located beside our condo was a neighbourhood filled with some of the most vibrant houses I’ve ever seen; each was painted a different beachy hue and lined with a whimsical white picket fence.

We woke up early the next morning in the hopes of catching a solid sunrise. We rolled out of bed and stumbled down to the beach; it helped that our condo was only a few steps away.
We seriously lucked out; the clouds threatened to hold back the sun’s rays, but thankfully, at the last minute, the sun found a way to break through in the most spectacular way.

That day was spent exploring the downtown area of the city. We started off at Moody Gardens Rainforest, a local tourist spot filled with tropical plants and animals.

Afterwards, we took a drive to the historic downtown district of Galveston and did a little exploring. And indulged in some ice cream, of course.

On Thursday we headed to the much anticipated stop of the trip: NASA. Best part of the day? Watching Kultar nerd out over everything.

On the way home, we stopped by the fishing pier to grab a drink and catch the sunset. We watched the local fishermen and women reel in some pretty impressive catches, while the sky faded from gold to pink.

Friday was the last full day of the trip, so it was spent soaking up as much sun as possible at the beach. And we even managed to squeeze in one more sunrise!

We finished off our last day of the trip the same way we started it: at the pier.

Galveston might not be the most well known or flashiest vacation destination, but it definitely has charm! What a great week.
Along with taking quite a few photos during the trip, we took a short video as well! You can find it here.
